About Us

Sal Abbate, BS, DVM
Sal Abbate, BS, DVM, was raised in New England. He attended Michigan State University as a undergraduate, then transferred to Auburn University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Nutrition, Growth and Physiology. He then went on to earn his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine Degree at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Abbate’s post-graduate studies are in Physiology, Nutrition, Growth and Body Composition, and most recently Traditional Chinese Medicine, Herbology, Food Therapy, and Acupuncture. His special interests in veterinary practice are in Orthopedic and Soft Tissue Surgery, Dermatology, Allergies, Integrative Medicine and Food Therapy.

Dr. Abbate has been the proud owner of the Tarpon Animal Hospital since 1990. He has dedicated his life’s work to helping pet owners offer the best quality of life possible to their pets, which he has always said are as much a part of the family as everyone else in the household.

Tiffany Rimar, BS, DVM, CVA, CCRT
Tiffany Rimar, BS, DVM, CVA, CCRT, was raised in the Tampa Bay Area. She attended University of North Carolina at Wilmington for undergraduate studies, holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in the West Indies. Dr. Rimar, in cooperation with the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine, is proud to be the World's First AVMA Approved Veterinary Acupuncture Intern! She conducted her studies at UF under Dr. Huisheng Xie, DVM, MS, PhD, a world leader in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, and author of many textbooks and research papers worldwide.

Dr. Rimar has also conducted Post- graduate studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine, marine mammal, aquatic and food-animal medicine, holds additional certifications or advanced training in Animal Rehabilitation, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Tui-Na (Chinese bone and muscle manipulation), Gold Implantation, Homeopathic medicine, Natural Healing Arts and Food Therapy. Dr. Rimar is an internationally known lecturer and locally recognized author Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and teacher of animal acupuncture to Veterinarians from around the world. She has special interests in Chronic Renal Failure, Allergic and Skin Conditions, Arthritis, Cancer, and Palliative Therapies.

Dr. Tom Callahan
Dr. Tom Callahan is a graduate of the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine (“Go Gators”!!!)  As an undergraduate, Dr. Callahan completed his pre-veterinary requirements at the University of Notre Dame, and his Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Sciences, with a minor in Biology from Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

Dr. Callahan grew up in Tampa and returned to the Bay area where he has been a practice owner at the Coastal Veterinary Clinics in Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs for over 20 years. His special interests include preventive medicine, soft tissue surgery, and internal medicine.  The challenge of working up and diagnosing those difficult cases really excites him.  We are fortunate to have Dr. Callahan’s extensive veterinary experience and leadership at Tarpon Animal Hospital! 

Dr. Callahan is a member of, and has even served on the board of multiple professional veterinary associations, including the AVMA, FVMA, PCVMS, Pinellas Animal Foundation, and he is an active community servant and has participated as a Big Brother, and a Guardian Ad Litem.  He is an avid Gator, Lightning, and Devil Rays fan, and has a special love for his petite, feminine English Bulldog named Emmy that he adopted from a rescue group. Dr. Callahan enjoys the beautiful beaches and water of the Gulf of Mexico and likes to catch a fish now and then.
